seattle or bust!

On friday, Curtis, myself, Paul & Alison will be venturing into the pacific northwest for a little vacation. Not only are we excited to get to Seattle, but we're also excited for the drive with our fellow road-trippers. Now, not just anyone can be a "road-tripper". It takes a special little something (especially traveling with Curt & I). A wide range of characteristics are involved when being considered a great "road-tripper", but I'd say the most important is an immunity to fussiness. Yep. Definitely.

Here are my top 5 reasons to love a road trip:

1. The amazing variety & quality of treats.
2. The type of games and conversations that are only entertaining when driving for an extended amount of time.
3. The little towns you drive through and are absolutely positive they were the location of a real life X-File or the bizarre string of murders you head about on the news.
4. The transformation that takes place among the passengers after about eight hours in the car together.
5. Last but not least, that undefinable funk that manifests itself when you pile out of the car at your final destination.

What are your favorite things about a road trip?

My favorite thing about a road trip is a buttercup... not the Reese's kind, but the kind Curtis is sure to bring along on such a long road trip....

Well actually, that's my favorite thing about a road trip that I'm not on... one like the one you're taking to Seattle with Paul and Allison... just thinking about those buttercups makes me laugh. btw, do you want to borrow the power inverter?

A road trip requires enough people to fill a variety of roles. You need the all-night-driver, the worthless-sleeping-copilot, the know-it-all-vocabulary-guy, the snack-and-treat-vendor, etc. My personal favorite part is the semi-coherant conversations I have as I am trying with all my might to stay awake and act as thought I am thoroughly engrossed in the topic at hand, when really I can't even hold my head up straight. Yeah, that's fun.

An addendum to my previous post... Curtis was actually an exceptional road-tripper when we drove the SUV back from Houston.

I don't remember a single buttercup... that doesn't mean that he wasn't lighting it up when I was asleep, but at least when I was awake, it was pleasant!

Also, when you're super tired, no amount of Dr. Pepper or Mt. Dew or even the Monster Energy Drinks or Red Bulls can prevent the sleep. You have to have sunflower seeds. That is the secret.

Thanks Curt for bringing those!

I agree. Sunflower seeds are the key to staying awake. They are what got me from Anaheim to Vegas still alive.

Am I the know-it-all-vocabulary-guy or the snack-and-treat-vendor?

I love road tripping.

i think you're the snack vendor. The vocab-guy talked about a peanut shaped baby falcon. I don't think that was you.

Just be sure to let up on the gas (and I don't mean the buttercups) a bit on your way thru Toppenish (or if you don't know where that is, near Zillah... just after passing Granger... on your way towards Wapato... ok -- its right near the teapot gas station!) Anyway, I've heard from some folks that can be a speed trap area. Be safe!
