bring our boys back home

I think I speak for most when I say, "please bring our two favorite guys of television back to us." Of course, I'm talking about Jim Halpert and Dwight Schrute.  My weeks aren't the same without them, particularly without Jim pulling some hilarious prank on an unsuspecting Dwight. I need that ridiculous humor in my Thursday nights, so until the stupid strike is over, this'll have to do. Enjoy some of the best moments between Jim and Dwight.

such a loss

Lastnight, Curtis and I turned on the tv to find that our beloved prophet had passed away.  Even though he was 97 I think it still came as a shock, I wanted him to be our prophet forever. How wonderful for him that he could see his wife again. He will surely be missed by millions around the world. Personally, I will miss his wit and sense of humor and unconditional love he had for everyone, whether they were of our faith or not. I can't help but smile a little, what a great day yesterday must have been for him.

#1 superhero

So, I was surfing Apple's website and watching some movie trailers and was lucky enough to come across this little beauty. Curt and I have been awaiting The Dark Knight since we heard about it, especially Curt. Until tonight, I had only seen teaser trailers. This is a good one and the movie looks amazing, with an all-star cast. I was particularly excited to see Maggie Gyllenhaal making an appearance, she's so great in everything. I think Batman is the number one superhero, the numero uno, the I-Ching. My top three reasons Batman is #1:

1. He doesn't actually have any "super powers". He's a normal person who excels in combat and science and triumphs in bringing foes to justice. (A little bit of anger and revenge can sure do the trick.)
2. He's not a goody goody. He's a bit of a "bad boy".
3. He has no weaknesses, unlike some other caped hero who's afraid of a little green rock.

Here is a list of 10 things that all superheroes need:
1. Extraordinary powers and abilities, such as martial arts and forensic science.
2. A strong moral code, including a willingness to risk one's safety in the service of good without expectation of reward.
3. A secret identity that protects the superhero's friends and family from becoming targets of his or her enemies.
4. A motivation, such as a sense of responsibility, a personal vendetta against criminals, or a strong belief in justice and humanitarian service.
5. A distinctive costume, often used to conceal the secret identity.
6. An underlying motif or theme that affects the hero's name, costume, personal effects, and other aspects of his or her character.
7. A number of enemies that the hero fights repeatedly, including an archenemy who is more troubling than the others.
8. A headquarters or base of operations, usually kept hidden from the general public.
9. A supporting cast of recurring characters, including the hero's friends, co-workers and/or love interests who may or may not know of the superhero's secret identity.
10. An "origin story" that explains the circumstances by which the character acquired his or her abilities as well as his or her motivation for becoming a superhero.

So check out this great trailer and get ready for the Dark Knight!

do we know how to throw a party or what?

As you know, Curtis, Paul, Alison and myself celebrated national Winnie the Pooh day on friday.  I'm pleased to say that it was a complete success.  Below are a few pictures of the festivities; Curtis and I under the "Happy Pooh Day" sign decked out with our party paraphernalia, Paul and Alison opening their Pooh Day gift packages, and the other four attendees that made it all possible. Thank you A.A. Milne for creating that "silly ol' bear".

and the winner is....

The winner for slowest afternoon ever....goes to Friday, January 18th! After careful consideration and rigorous testing, my co-worker, Amos, and I have declared that today is the slowest afternoon we have seen since the last slow afternoon. Fortunately, like all slow afternoons, they will eventually come to an end. However, I must give friday an honorable mention due to the fact that it is the beginng of the weekend. There is no better time of the week than friday night. On friday night, there isn't even a hint of monday, it doesn't exist. Saturday rolls in and monday is lurking around the corner like a shady used car salesman. By the time sunday gets here it is completely tainted with monday. It's so saturated with monday-ness that, at times, is hard to enjoy the full benefits that sunday has to offer. Curtis and I have offend talked about adding another day in between sunday and monday that, of course, would be part of the weekend. With the help of our nephew, Cameron, we've decided that Lasterday would be the perfect name for it. On a final note, today is National Winnie The Pooh Day. We will be celebrate it with Paulison by eating delicious pooh corner treats, watching the Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, and trying to find where Eeyore has misplaced his tail. So enjoy and TTFN.

i love rock 'n' roll!

I am quite happy to say that I spent the better part of my night playing Guitar Hero III. Wow! What an amazing game. Definitely the best interactive game since Duck Hunt on the original Nintendo.  I am on my way to becoming a "rock deity" with the help of Bret Michaels, Slash, KISS, ZZ Top and many other classic rockers.  It is quite sad that rock music isn't made today the way it was then.  These days rock music mostly sucks, I can't think of any bands today that'll be remembered in twenty years, or even ten. Well, for those of us who still love listening to a good rocker tune, head bangin', singing with our eyes closed,  and playing a sweet air guitar, let's raise our lighters high and long live rock 'n' roll!

Apparently, not everyone is as big of fan as I am when it comes to Guitar Hero III. Check out this great video starring everyones favorite blender spokesman. Enjoy!

man's best friend

These are the three adorable faces that greeted me when I came home from work today, actually they greet me everyday. No matter what kind of day I've had, I always feel a little happier and a little more loved after I get home. This big brown lug is Duke, also known as Dubers, also known as "the biggest dufus I know". But I can't help but love him, I mean, just look at that tongue. Duke enjoys chasing frisbees at the park, chewing on tennis balls, the fresh wind in his face as he sticks his head out of a moving car, getting out of the yard, and sleeping for about 16 hours a day.

This adorable little canine is Jada. She is the smartest dog I've ever met. As you can see, one of her most defining features is her ice blue eye. We call her our little snow queen. She likes to spend her days frolicking in the yard with Duke, basking in some warm sun, chewing on her favorite little squeaker toys and, of course, sleeping. She also enjoys camping, hiking, and swimming to fetch sticks. She takes care of Duke, making sure his ears are always squeaky clean and his eye goobers are kept at bay. Oh, and canoodling with him at night to keep him warm.

And last, but certainly not least is my little Maggie. Curt gave her to me on our one year anniversary and we've been best friends since. Maggie, as you can see, is absolutely adorable and all too easy to love. Her favorite past times include curling up on laps, begging for food, sticking her head out of moving car windows, chasing the big dogs at the park, chewing on bones, and snuggling with me under the covers.

I think the world would be better place if everyone in it was a dog person. They are a great example of total unconditional love and if only we could all be the person our dog thinks we are.

let your freak flag fly

We all have a freak flag... or a geek flag.  Some of us are flying ours more proudly than others.  Some, sadly, don't fly theirs at all.  We are all on either the geek end of the spectrum or the freak end.  Either way, we need to raise our flags proudly and let them flap in the turbulent winds of society.  We should not be ashamed of ourselves for any reason, whether it be an obsessive interest in owning your own personal weapons cache or collecting stamps.  I would have to put myself in the freak category, however, I have taken considerable steps towards the geek side of the fence since being married to Curtis.  Likewise, he has taken considerable steps to the freak side of the spectrum.  We've been a good balance for each other, I suppose.  Here are some of my freak-ish qualities, according to myself,  that put me on that side of the fence.  I would like to clone my thumbs and then graph them on as big toes, i think life would be better if we had background music, I would like to have different pairs of feet, like shoes, that we can change whenever we want and I think they should still sell soda in glass bottles.  Now, for the little tid-bits that eek me a little closer to geek-dom. I would like to never wear the same pair of socks twice, a deep desire of mine is to attend an X-Files convention, I point out genus and specie names of plants in the background of movies and I love warm tapioca pudding.  Mmmmmm.  So, whether we have a geek flag or a freak flag, let it fly high.

new year, new dimension

Well, I've done it. I've joined the world of blogging. It's done. Now comes step two, the immense pressure of devising clever entries to keep my many fans coming back for more. I'm confident I can deliver.  To start, I'm highly disappointed about the continue of the writers strike.  We are missing out on great shows such as The Office, 24, Late Night Shows and The Golden Globes.  Too many people in the world are under the impression that by throwing an adult version of a "temper tantrum" they will get what they want.  The saddest thing... most of the time they do. So, to that I say, "Pay them the extra money they want and let the rest of us get back to spending our nights mezmerized by the boob tube!"
